The Mindfulness Course and ongoing support sessions :

Mindfulness is a very powerful Meditation practice which helps us to manage stress, anxiety and even mild depression. It is simply learning how to pay attention to what is happening here and now in our thoughts, emotions and sensations in a non-judgemental way.

One of the best ways to learn mindfulness techniques is to attend an 8 week Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) Programme created by Jon Kabat-Zinn. Evidence has shown that it can be an effective aid in the treatment of many mental physical and emotional health issues, as well as in generally improving our performance, relationships, and well-being. A much welcome side effect is that we learn to develop compassion for ourselves and others.

Each session focuses on and teaches the various mindfulness techniques from the 8 week MBSR course and supports the particpants to practise these in their everyday life. The advantage of having ongoing sessions is to learn these techinques slowly and to be able to develop the the practice gradually over time. It also gives everyone the opportunity to support each other and encourage the regular practice at home and at work. In addition to the exercises there is information (and discussion) on stress, stress management, and how to apply mindfulness to interpersonal communication.

These are some of the practices taught in the sessions :

Sitting meditation

Mindful Eating

Body scan

Walking meditation

Mindful movement

3 minute breathing space

Managing difficult feelings with mindfulness

Empathic communication

Thought patterns

Identifying beliefs and challenging them
